A Social Media White House?

Advertising Age is reporting that President-Elect Obama has a database of over 3 millsion supporters who contributed to his campaign and stay routinely wired for interaction with him and his staffers. Experts are saying this is the largest database of active donors ever assembled, other than some religious organizations.
The database was created in-house, name by name...email by email...mobile number by mobile number...no list was bought here. The Obama team knew to record every single person who made a point of interacting with the campaign.
So the next questions is, what does the presidnet do with the list once he's in office? Does it just get old until he runs for president again?
Absolutely not! Barack Obama and his team have no intentions of letting the list grow cold... and no doubt plan to keep adding to the list each day.
If you were consulting the president-elect, what communication strategies would you suggest he use the list for? What uses could he get out of the list? What interactive efforts should be considered between the president and his database of loyal constitutent supporters?

I think that he should use the list to talk to people about what types of issues he should help us all with. What he can do to help our struggling economy. He could probably get a lot more support out of the list. He could consider going through with some of the stuff that he said he would do as president. He's going to have a lot on his plate when he moves into the white house

After taxes sky rocket (since he has never voted for a tax dediction in the house that is when he does decide to vote), he also planed to "bankrupt" the coal industries, and send Americans "price signals" for electricty he could call these people on the list and ask if he is doing a good job as President. They might have a question or two on where there money is being distributed as well.

First, I think that President-Elect Obama's team was very smart in obtaining all these names. If I were consulting the president-elect I might form the list into different categories like seniors, veterans, etc. Then I might use these to send out surveys and questionaires to the different categories, to observe the presidents approval rating and to hear the concerns of the American public. I do not however, believe these lists should be used to send political propaganda or to form a sort of fan club. This list must be used appropriately and carefully so as to not exclude other Americans who might not of donated or supported the president-elect's campaign.

A president is supposed to rule for his constitutes, the American people. The list is made of his supporters, mainly the democratic party. This is only half of his constituency. In no way should he take opinion from, or vote on the basis of polls or input from the database.

I believe the Obama campaign was very smart to collect all of this contact information. I know, from personal experience, while trying to RSVP for a rally here in Pueblo that my email address was saved in some sort of database and used throughout the entire campaign. I always knew what President-Elect Obama’s latest plans were and where he would be traveling to next. These contacts will also become very helpful once he takes office. His advisors are already utilizing the American People’s ideas about change in America on their website change.gov. I would suggest that he uses the information he has gained to consult the American people on their needs, wants, and concerns. He was elected for the people, by the people, so shouldn’t he be working to meet the needs of the people? I would also suggest he uses the contacts to reassure the people that he has a plan, and when he does take office, things will change for the better. Our economic situation is so grim right now that if Obama could somewhat reassure the people of America that there will be change that they will all reap the benefits, I believe he will be able to gain the support and confidence of the people. These lists contain one of the easiest, most effective ways to get a hold of the American public, email addresses. Our country has become the most technologically advanced place of its time, and by contacting people through an email account that they check on a daily basis will only yield positive results. Obama is going to have a rough road ahead of him when he takes office. If he can get the support of the American people through the contacts he made during his campaign, everyone will get behind and support our new president to lead us into a better future.

Good and smart move for collecting the names that they did. I think that they should go over plans on how to fix our current economic problem and even gain a stronger understanding of the presidential support he has received. He has alot to accomplish going into the white house and I think he is up for the challenge.

Though I believe that Obama was the right choice for President, I am already kind of getting sick of hearing about him constantly. All of his spending on advertising and the use of new technology is a bit overboard. His politics are good but he should seperate it from trying to "connect" with the youth since the election is over.

This is a great thing for a couple of different reasons. The first reason is that it allows some form of direct access to communicate ideas to the President or his workers. If the idea is good enough they can take it into consideration. Another reason this is good, is because it can keep track of how many people support Obama. This could be a good thing just so he knows if his policies are working and people are agreeing with him.

If this list were to grow cold, it would be a shame. it could have so many benefiting factors. Although I would never sign up for this list because I disagree with almost everything Obama believes, it is still a very good idea and will probably be used by every president that follows him.

This list shows the president-elect Obama's ability to adapt to new technology and new systems, i say he uses the list as one of his many ways to view what isssues are most important to the general public and which ones should be addressed ASAP.

I think that if I were in the same position I would probably use the list in the same way Barack did throughout his election. After taking office I think Barack will do a good job of keeping up with his list of loyal supporters but I also feel that he could expand his communication with his supporters by still using commercials, text messages, e-mails, and also maybe even random survey calls to get feedback from the people!!

The list that Obama has gathered is incredible and if they plan to keep it going it could have a great power. The list could be used to update the public on new policies or possible laws being passed through emails. I don't knwo too many people that watch CNN all day every day anymore and so by sending emails updating us on this would be wonderful. Obama could even use the list if he chooses to run for president again after his first term.

Finding people on a personal level was a great way to get the publics attention and motivation in this election. Obama's campaign was very stron in intropersonal relations which I think truely helped Obama win the election. It should be very interesting to see in the years to come how this list grows and is used.

The list could be used as an effective grassroots communication tool for future elections that Obama is in favor of. He could send out emails asking his supporters to vote for a certain senatorial candidate or to increase support for things outside the legislative spectrum.
